SUGGESTED OPERATION OF THE COLVARD PUPILLOMETER
As pupil size continues to play a significant role in the outcomes of refractive surgery, the
pre-operative use of the Colvard Pupillometer continues to be the standard of care for obtaining accurate
measurement. In an ongoing effort to standardize methods of pre-operative pupil measurement, OASIS
Medical has developed the following checklist that should be followed for the greatest level of accuracy
and consistency.
w
Obtain screening room light level of approximately 4 cd/m
2
. It should be noted that the light
level might need to be made darker depending on the lifestyle of the par
ticular patient.
w
Measure the light level in the room with a light meter.
w
Wait at least 30 seconds until taking the measurement for full dilation of the pupil.
w
Once the Pupillometer is placed over the eye, instruct the patient to focus on an object at the
end of the room with the fellow eye.
w
Focus the reticle and take the measurement.
w
Document measurement in patient records.
w
Repeat process on the second eye.
Using the Colvard Pupillometer and following this checklist will enable the measurement to obtain a
highest level of accuracy and repeatability. It should also be noted that these are suggestions that may
need to be modified based on the individual circumstances of an individual cas
