This Ludlum geiger counter works well, and
includes an end-window probe on a BNC cable.
This side-window probe is less sensitive
than pancake probes, but is
more sensitive than side-window
probes. This geiger
device uses one two standard D-cell batteries;
the batteries are effective for more than a
hundred hours of use
.

Ludlum is America's largest
manufacturer of geiger instruments, employing 600
staff.  All Ludlum geiger
counters, and all their
components, are
made in USA. My wife and I
had a half-day tour of the Ludlum factory
during our visit in March 2018. The site is
very windy; the town is surrounded by
thousands of power-generating wind turbines.

FLASHING WHITE
LED LIGHT
On the left side of the bathtub
case, I have installed a bright
LED lamp which flashes in synchrony
with the loud clicks heard on the
speaker. Both flashes and sound
clicks can be turned off with the
audio switch on the top panel.

photos of the uranium rock canyon,
published articles about uranium
mining, etc. The geiger counter
will be a good instrument either
for outdoor prospecting, or

instrument's calibration.
My calibration
tools
are: (1) Ludlum
Model 500 calibrator, (2)
Eberline
MP-2 pulse generator,
(3) Fluke high voltage DC
probe,
and (4) Sperry high-level DC
voltmeter.
Calibration involves
adjusting the three range-
multipliers, and also adjusting
the geiger's
DC-900 volt
signal that energizes the probe.

of the found rocks. Best months for rock

trampled on these uranium rocks.
These will total three pounds,
minimum.  They will not be identical
to rocks shown in photos; They will
be a random assortment of
uraninite,
carnotite, tyuyaminite, coffinite, or
Jurassic todilto limestone.
The Jurassic
todilto limestone rocks have an age of
approximately 200-146 million years. The
northwestern cliffs at Jurassic Canyon
are part of the famed
Morrison Formation,
known both for uranium and also for
dinosaur fossils.
More dinosaur fossils,
and more uranium ore, have been recovered
at Morrison Formation sites than at any
other
geological sites in the USA.*
Some of
the enclosed rocks will be from the Lisbon
Valley
uranium region in Southeastern Utah,
where I prospected for the rocks, in June
2017.
Some will be from Uravan Colorado,
where I gathered uranium rocks in April 2018.
For shipping, the rocks are contained in metal
cans for shielding while being transported,
so I may need to swap in other rocks to
fit the space available in the containers.
